Nicko McBrain fit ses débuts avec le groupe Streetwalkers. Ce fut son premier contrat professionel. Puis il rejoint le Pat Travers Band en 1977, avant d'intégrer Trust pour l'enregistrement de l'album "Marche ou Crève" en 1981. Il quitte Trust en août 1982 pour rejoindre Iron Maiden en décembre 1982. A côté de ça, il se consacre à quelques exibitions en collaboration avec la marque de batteries Sonor ainsi que Paiste pour les symbales. Il enregistre en 1991 la VHS Rhythm of the Beast. En 2009, il ouvre à Coral Springs en Floride un restaurant BBQ appelé Rock and Roll Ribs.
